Description:

The Early Intervention Developmental Specialist Intern will provide specialized instruction for families during the SUU Early Intervention process as instructed by the Baby Watch Early Intervention program (State of Utah).

This may include but is not limited to:

  • Providing services for the families in their natural environment
  • Ensuring the electronic child file is up to date with any needed materials
  • Other tasks during their time in the SUU Early Intervention program.

Early Intervention Specialists usually require a Bachelor's Degree or specialized DOPL license. For the Early Intervention Specialist Intern position we will reach out to the state to submit a request for a Provisional Early Intervention Specialist Credential. The intern will complete specialist training through the state system in Canvas and through observation in the community. After the credential is completed the intern will have the opportunity to go out into the field to provide services for children and their families. The intern may also have the opportunity to look at some of the systems in the program and present suggestions for improvement to staff members.

This internship is part of the Spring 2025 Professional Internship Program. To be eligible for the program you must:

  • Be enrolled as an SUU student during the course of the internship.
  • Have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Be willing to work 10 to 20 hours per week.
  • Provide thoughtful responses in your application.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides developmentally appropriate services to children ages birth to three and their families in their home or natural environment. This includes providing specialized care and instruction to children in their families, completing any necessary paperwork within the state electronic system, and following any related policies and procedures from Baby Watch Early Intervention.
  • Complete a Provisional Early Intervention Specialist Credential through the state of Utah. This will include required training in Early Intervention through the use of the statewide system in Canvas and through observations.
  • Attend workshops, training, staff meetings, and other events as needed. (This will have flexibility to accommodate since this is an intern position).
  • Assist the Program Manager with specific tasks related to the interns major and interests.
  • Collaborate and assist staff members with tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Must be in school for a degree in a field related to Early Intervention. Education and Social Work majors preferred.
  • Must have a valid Utah driver’s license along with reliable transportation. Use of vehicle for professional use is required (mileage is reimbursed).
  • The intern must be willing to implement the standards of the SUU Early Intervention program. This additionally includes all SUU policies including the SUU Code of Conduct.
  • The intern must pass criminal background checks as needed.
  • CPR is required as needed according to the Early Intervention credential requirements. (we can assist with getting CPR)
  • The intern must obtain an Provisional Early Intervention credential within three months of their start date. (We will assist the intern with the credential)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with infants and toddlers is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children with disabilities or developmental delays is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience with computers, electronic filing systems, and other technology related systems is strongly preferred.
